In a previous life as a consultant for many small businesses, this is a strategy I used extensively. When I got in to doing Search Engine Optimization several years ago, I still showed businesses how to generate new customers using this strategy. Many people do their searches through Yahoo and Bing so they should be a part of your over-all strategy. When it comes to getting customers for any business, large or small, you will find an almost unanimous consensus that the best way to bring customers into almost any business is through referrals. Very few people would disagree with that but what they will disagree on is the strategy to get those referrals.

When people think of referrals, what comes to mind for most people is selling someone your product or service, and that customer likes your company so much they tell their friends and relatives about their experience. The problem with this kind of referral is that most people are shy when it comes to saying what a good experience they had. On the other hand, if they have a bad experience, they suddenly are like a politician, campaigning and spreading the word about how horrible you are. The other problem with this hope for new customers, is that most people don’t have that many close friends and relatives they will talk to about your business.

What if I were to tell you that there is a way to use a referral strategy that could literally bring in hundreds, if not thousands of new customers to your business for very little cost? What if I told you, it is something that could be put in to action quickly and start bringing customers to your business within as little as a few days? What is really beautiful about this program is that the potential customers are buyers because they have been referred by the greatest person in the world, someone they really trust, even more than their family.

This is the same technique that the AARP has been using for years to make hundreds of millions of dollars PER YEAR! You have probably used this strategy on linked in, without realizing it.

Would that be of interest to you? If so, then hang on because you are about to learn a strategy I used many years ago that still works today. One that REALLY works, like gangbusters.

You can’t be lazy, at least not too lazy. You need to put in some effort. But not a lot. This will work in just about any business. >br>
It is called a third party endorsement program. Think about it. People endorse other people on linked in for a talent or a skill. Why? In the hopes that they will get business from someone needing that skill. Do you think that AARP sells insurance? Nope. Not even close but they make hundreds of millions of dollars every year because they refer people to an insurance company and get paid a commission. Lots of commission. Why does it work for the AARP? Because people trust them completely. If they say that a company is good, then it must be true. Most people don’t even research the company to see if they are a good company.

You can do the same thing. It is not difficult. One of the best referral sources I found is Labor Unions. People listen to what the head of their labor union says. I got an agreement with the labor unions to offer their members a benefit. At the time I was working in the insurance industry with a company that offered a $1000 Accidental Death and Dismemberment to the unions. The cost for the AD and D policy was only pennies. I would send out a letter from the labor union telling them about this benefit and that a rep would call them in a couple days and to be sure and set up an appointment with them. I had over 80% set up appointments with me. Then I would talk to them about their current insurance and offer them an insurance supplement.

You can set up arrangements with Banks, Credit Unions, Niche Organizations, and much more. What if you can’t get an organization to allow you to work with their members this way? Then you could set up your own niche organization and buy a list of people in that niche. When I sold insurance to farmers, that is exactly what I did. I set up a legitimate farmer organization, got a list of subscribers to a farmer magazine, and sent out letters to them. That was extremely successful.

Think of all the niches out there, nurses, teachers, law enforcement, plumbers, convenience stores, dentists, chiropractors and many more. It is almost limitless. Put yourself in their position. For example, you are a teacher and you get two letters in the mail, one is from ABC Insurance and one is from The Affiliated Teachers Association. Which one are you going to open and which one are you going to throw away?
